CUSTOM AWNING STRUCTURE
What began as a roof leak dilemma on the rear of a residence near Meridian Hills resulted in an Custom Awning Structure.
WERK collaborated with architect and homeowner to rebuild the preexisting balcony and guardrails while introducing new upper and lower awning structures to shelter the home from future weather events. We used an aluminum prefabricated guardrail kit at the walkway. Also, we used polycarbonate roof cladding to provide a rain screen while still allowing natural light into the south-facing windows. Exposed structure was stained white to work with the existing Colonial Revival exterior trims.
We outfitted the existing walkway with repairs to existing water-damaged framing, then new membrane and tile walkway roofing. Original house may have never been flashing properly. Instead of an even more invasive operation involving removal of brick wall cladding to flash properly, we agreed that new awning would keep the bulk of water off of balcony.
